Minister calls for responsible use of social media

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker Minister for Information, Culture, and Tourism Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel on Tuesday underscored the need for responsible use of social media.

He expressed concern over the spread of negative attitudes and the erosion of cultural values. A handout said he was speaking at the inauguration of the Art and Design Exhibition at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar

The minister emphasized the need for counteracting negativity by showcasing the positive aspects of culture, values, and society. He urged the youth to combat negative attitudes and bring forth rich social values and traditions.

Citing instances of social media’s misuse particularly in the Kohistan incident, he said the government would take strict action against those disseminating harmful content. The minister made remarks during the exhibition, where 40 art and design pieces created by 25 students from merged districts were displayed.

The event was organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority and the Department of Art and Design, University of Peshawar. Provincial Finance Minister Ahmed Rasool Bangash attended the exhibition. The minister observed artworks and presented prizes to the winning students.

Head of Art and Design Department University of Peshawar Dr Imrana Ayaz, Manager Event Tourism Authority Hasina Shaukat, Manager Culture Humayun Khan, and others were also present.

At the exhibition, Sara Hizbullah received first prize, whereas Sara Wazir and Alishma Hassan received second and third positions, respectively.
