Dawoodi Bohra community leader inaugurates KU law school’s new building

Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, inaugurated on Monday the new building of the law school at the University of Karachi, which is named after him.

The inauguration ceremony of ‘H H Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Building’ was attended by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, former CM Murad Ali Shah, Boards and Universities Secretary Noor Ahmed Samoo, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi among others.

Speaking on the occasion, the caretaker CM said the social services provided by the Dawoodi Bohra community transcended borders and nationalities as the community was dedicated to human development.

Baqar termed the new law school building a valuable gift for students of Karachi and entire Pakistan. “The state-of-the-art facility not only symbolises a commitment to academic excellence but will also be a catalyst for intellectual growth, societal progress, and continuous harmonious coexistence of tradition and contemporary values in the landscape of Pakistani education,” he said.

The governor said the Bohra community was one of the most peaceful communities in Pakistan and despite the difficult socio-economic conditions of the country, they continued their productive activities and had been playing an important role in the health and education sectors besides other walk of lives.

Tessori also lauded the role of the Bohra community in welfare works and increasing the national tax network. He also expressed the hope that those studying law in the new building would do outstanding work in their field in the future.

The KU VC said the Dawoodi Bohra community continued to play a pivotal role in elevating the standards of education and research in our country. “I thank Syedna for his unwavering commitment to education which has been a guiding force for our university,” he said.

Dr Iraqi commented that the Bohra community head always emphasised the role of education in societal development. “The School of Law building follows the legacy of former Dawoodi Bohra leader Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin, who dedicated a building to the Department of Genetics at the University of Karachi in 2004.”
