A Unicef report suggests that millions of children in the age group of five to 16 are out of school in Pakistan. Many factors account for it. While there has been an exponential rise in the importance of education worldwide over the years on account of modern digital technology, Pakistan is still unable to bring students back to school. This points to the collective failure of the state, which under Article 25A of the constitution is responsible for providing free and compulsory education to children aged 5-16. This is a serious issue and calls for immediate attention. The government must engage all relevant stakeholders to come up with a concrete, viable and perennial solution to this issue.
