KARACHI: Finally, the Sindh Police constituted the Special Security Cell for the protection and security of Chinese citizen working on different projects in the province.
The said Special Security Cell (SSC) will comprise 2,000 police officials. Earlier, it was decided in June last year by Interior Ministry Ch Nisar Ali Khan and National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta) to form Special Security Cells in all the four provinces and such directions had been made to all four Inspectors General of Police.
Following the orders three provinces -- Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan immediately formed the Security Cells but despite of many directions and reminders of the Interior Ministry, Nacta and Sindh Home Department, Sindh Police remained reluctant to form such important Cell.
After the removal of former IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali incumbent Sindh IGP A D Khawaja ordered for formation of that Cell and immediate recruitment for this important purpose.
It is pertinent to mention here that there is more Chinese citizens in Sindh province specially in its capital Karachi than in other provinces, a senior police officer told this reporter.
He said that there should be a force up to 4,000 police officials for the security of the Chinese citizens keeping in view of the number of Chinese citizens, sensitive condition of province and worse law and order situation.
Chinese citizens working on different fields and projects in the province, especially Chinese engineers working on different development and electricity projects throughout the province are required to be provided security particularly in Karachi that is their main hub and also a transit point for them.
Sources in law enforcing agencies said that after the announcement of huge investment plans by Chinese government, acceleration in development works of Gwadar port and economic corridor some religious extremist groups, militant wings of a political party, a nationalist militant party and intelligence agencies of enemy country are planning to attack the Chinese citizens in province.
