Commissioner launches crackdown against milk sellers for price violation

Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal on Monday initiated a crackdown against milk sellers across the city after receiving numerous complaints of price violations.

The city administration had fixed an official price for milk, but it was observed that many milk sellers were selling their products at inflated rates. Taking serious note of the complaints, Iqbal issued directives to all deputy commissioners to ensure that officers were deployed in the field to monitor the price of milk and take legal action against those found violating the official prices.

In line with the commissioner’s orders, magistrates were dispatched to various areas of Karachi to enforce the crackdown. They were tasked with seizing milk from sellers who were found selling it at higher prices and immediately auctioning it off.

Reports submitted by the deputy commissioners said that a total of eleven shops were sealed in different districts of the city. The District East deputy commissioner reported that the seized milk included that of MashAllah Milk Shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Hassan Square, Nagori Milk Shop near Jauhar Morr, Rado Milk Shop in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Super Nagori Milk Shop near Munawar Chowrangi, and Aman Milk.

Similarly, the deputy commissioner of Korangi reported that six shops were sealed in Shah Faisal Colony for violating the official price. This action was taken under the supervision of the relevant assistant commissioner.

In the South district, the deputy commissioner reported that two shops were sealed in the Civil Lines subdivision for not adhering to the city administration’s fixed price for milk. Additionally, other assistant commissioners imposed fines amounting to Rs75,000 on violators.
