If referendum can be held in Scotland, why not in Kashmir: Fazl

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief and Chairman of Kashmir Committee of parliament Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said if a referendum can be held in Scotland, then why the same process cannot be arranged in Kashmir so that the Kashmiri people could decide their future on their own.
Addressing a function in Islamabad on Sunday in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day, he said that the solution to the Kashmir issue would bring prosperity in the region and its people would get rid of illiteracy and poverty.
He said that the Kashmir issue should be resolved according to the wishes of Kashmiris in line with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.He said the international community should play its role in resolving the Kashmir issue.
He said Pakistan would continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris in their just struggle for their right to self-determination. He said the whole nation would continue to support the Kashmiris till the plebiscite in the valley.
He urged India to fulfill Jawaharlal Nehru’s promise of referendum on freedom of Kashmir. He said that India could not become a permanent member of the UN Security Council till it fulfilled the pledges made by Nehru.
