Corruption-free Pakistan: a national movement

Amir Jammat-e-Islami Pakistan

The cancer of social, political, electoral and moral corruption has become dangerous for national integrity, democracy, election and the moral values of the whole nation in the country. The present corrupt system is the basic reason of severe poverty, inflation, unemployment and restlessness in the country. Although we have limitless natural resources; people are intelligent and hardworking but still rich people are becoming more rich and poor are poorer. The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees job, education, residence and free medical for common man. But corrupt governments have deprived the citizens of their basic rights. As many as 12 billion rupees corruption is being done daily in Pakistan. It means 4,380 billion rupees are being squandered annually. These figures of corruption are unimaginable but the institutions of government are certifying it.

The mega projects of energy in Pakistan can be completed with the following amount e.g. Bhasha Dam Rs1335 billion, Dasu Dam Rs795 billion, Bunai Dam Rs827 billion, Kalabagh Rs1060 billion, Patan Dam Rs636 billion and Thakot Rs636 billion. It means if we control the corruption and save money, we can collect the required amount for these projects only in one and a half year. Similarly we have the debts of 7,266 billion rupees. We can pay all these debts in one and a half year.

Corrupt politicians and bureaucracy is giving life and sustenance to this corrupt system. The institutions that were established against it have always supported it. Lifesaving medicines, milk, water and even red chilly are not pure. People are given the meat of donkeys to eat. Pakistanis are being humiliated by this corruption in the world. Firstly, we have been mixing water in milk, now we are inventing milk. The utility bills are fake and common people are paying taxes. People who do good deeds are discouraged while those who are indulged in crimes are encouraged and awarded.People are taught that how they can change their black money into white. The target of “Corruption Free Pakistan National Movement” is corrupt system and bureaucracy.

It is a moral and constitutional responsibility of persons and parties having good reputation that they should be a part of this movement. This movement should be continued until the country is free from corruption and the corrupt people.

Elections have become a source of corruption. Because who contests an election spends millions and after winning earn billions. Political parties take as much money as they can and then give party tickets to the candidates. Our institutions are still trying to define the moral corruption instead of doing something to stop it. Obviously we are disobeying Allah Almighty in this way. The nation who becomes ready to sacrifice everything for the honour of the Holy Prophet (SAW) is violating His teachings. The government has to become an ideal for the nation because it is responsible for everything that is evil. When government officials will earn money from Haj and Umra what can we expect from a common man. Definitely not something good. Billions are being corrupted from Zakat and Ushr funds.

A minister of the previous govt remarked shamelessly in a talk show “Our party has also a right on corruption.” Government has committed corruption of 100 million rupees in Yellow Cab, Rozgar Scheme, Parah Likha Punjab and projects of oil, gas and minerals. The national assets of Pakistan for example National Bank of Pakistan and PTCL are sold in a way that even a donkey man cannot sell his donkey. Firstly, these institutions are overloaded with unnecessary expenditures and thus they are flopped. Less value is shown in the balance sheet. The rulers from Ayub Khan to Nawaz Sharif all announced that everyone will be called to account publicly. These rulers also make new institutions for this purpose. After police there are the institutions of Anti-corruption, FIA, PRODA, EBDO, Public Accounts Committee, Accountability Commission and NAB. A huge amount is spent on these institutions but the result is zero. Because government uses these institutions to blackmail and depress its opponents. Government is annoyed at the opening of the corruption cases of its allies. NAB has 150 mega corruption cases in its files. Every corrupt wants that the other should be called to account. The Auditor General has raised an objection on the calculations of 4.2 trillion which are unsettled since many years. People want that the corruption of national assets should be regarded as an act of terrorism and disloyalty legally. War and terrorism destroy the infrastructure of a country. But social progress and infrastructure never begin in corruption. The progress in the fields of education, health, law, women and in other fields could not be started because the national assets were looted. Consequently Pakistan has to pay the loan of 70 billion rupees.

Now a loan is taken to pay the installment of a previous loan. The situation is becoming worst. Continuous struggle is needed to make a change. People should participate in this movement intentionally. It is the movement of Pakistan’s existence. We shall start a global operation against corruption during this movement. A large part of the national wealth is in the accounts of developed countries like America, Switzerland and Briton. This wealth should be brought back to the country. Strict measures should be taken in this regard.

JI will establish a Jirga which will consist of well-reputed personalities to locate and estimate this wealth. It will try to bring this money into the country. The nation has to be united to save the country with the same spirit that was at the time of partition. Now Pakistan and corruption cannot go side by side. No doubt that governments are always the root cause of all problems in society. We should remember that we have to be answerable to Allah Almighty on the Day of Judgment. The evils and wickedness of others will not save us on that day rather we’ll be accountable for not preventing them from evil deeds. So, we should try to reform ourselves. We should ask forgiveness of Allah for our sins. We should promise with Allah Almighty that we shall not disobey Him next time. We should not isolate ourselves from collective matters and refer these affairs to the people who are conscientious and sincere.
