Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani on Wednesday said education is not the priority of the government because elite leading class does not want to give education to middle and lower class, as it always wants to rule them.

He stated this during his visit to the Social Science Expo 2016. Senator Raza Rabbani appreciated the efforts of Jang Media Group for taking a step to promote social sciences in the country.

The Senate chairman said that education must be our priority but our government and leaders are taking it very lightly. "We are facing law and order situation in our country just because of lack of education. There is a need to make a strong policy to promote education in our country,” he added.

He said that the government is only making education plans to show other countries and NGOs. "We all know that we have received lots of money in the name of education but where is that money no one knows. Plans are still there and targets are not meet yet,” he said.

He further said "The syllabus we are teaching to our children is very poor and there is need to make changes in it. We have stopped teaching our history to our young generation that’s why they are leaving this country." Talking about universities in Pakistan, Raza Rabbani said that academic independence should be given to all universities so that they could give their best to this society.

“Here I will also say that the ruling elite of this country doesn’t want to give academic independence to the universities, if it does so the middle class will come forward, which they don’t want,” he added.
