Bowen Yang reveals unexpected moment that made him miss 'Saturday Night Live'
Bowen Yang had been a part of 'Saturday Night Live' for nearly a decade
Bowen Yang left Saturday Night Live last December. He was part of the skit show for seven years.
Then, recently, the actor shot Las Culturistas Culture Awards with podcast partner Matt Rogers.
This, in turn, opened the gates of nostalgia for him, evoking the iconic sketch show.
"When we did the culture awards, it reminded me very much of the dream factory that was 'SNL', just on a much smaller scale,” he told Variety.
This triggered memories for Yang on Saturday Night Live.
“Of course, it really broke open all these thoughts that I’ve had about 'SNL'."
He continued, "I kind of spun out and started to think about how comedy overall is just like in this interesting spot where I feel like it might be a little undervalued."
"Because I feel people have a psychological need to have it to cope with the reality of things."
Yang shared that he now watched SNL as a fan, which has become a source of comfort for him.
"Which I think ‘SNL’ still does. I watch it as a comfort now, and it’s really surreal watching it from the other side, but it’s amazing. It’s how I grew to love it."
Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live wrapped up season 51 a few weeks ago. But it is unclear when the next season will premiere.
