Prince Harry and Meghan: UK wedding snub called final nail in their 'royal coffin'
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not been invited to the wedding of Princess Anne's son
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not been invited to the upcoming wedding of Princess Royal’s son, Peter Phillips.
The alleged snub has sparked a debate about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s current relationship with the royal family, and what missing the occasion signifies.
Daily Mail recently reported that a close friend of the Princess Royal’s son said: “Peter and Harry haven’t spoken for several years and have simply lost touch, so he hasn’t been invited.”
Commenting on the report, Alicia Liberty wrote in an opinion piece for Express.co.uk, "It's far from brutal. It feels more inevitable than shocking at this point. Royal weddings are usually overflowing with cousins, chaos, forced small talk and slightly awkward family reunions over warm champagne."
She said, "But this one appears to be exposing something much more uncomfortable: Harry no longer naturally fits into the royal world anymore. And perhaps the saddest part of all is how unsurprising that has become."
Alicia Liberty added, "Weddings are deeply personal. Whether you are hosting 30 people in a chic registry office or 300 at some sprawling stately home, every single name comes under scrutiny."
Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling will exchange vows on Saturday, June 6th at All Saints Church in Kemble, Cirencester.
King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been notified of the wedding plans.
A report said Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson will not be at the wedding because their presence would overshadow the couple's day.
Both Peter Phillips, 48, and Harriet Sperling, 45, are divorced. Phillips has two daughters from his 13-year marriage to Autumn Phillips: Savannah, aged 14, and Isla, aged 13.
Sperling, who works as an NHS paediatric nurse, has a teenage daughter named Georgia from a previous relationship.
