Former Duke of York Andrew is still in the line of succession despite King Charles stripped him of his royal titles, which is ‘embarrassing at best.’
This has been claimed by royal expert Hilary Fordwich while speaking to the Fox News Digital.
Hilary told the outlet, "Given Andrew’s ghastly behavior, his still being in the line of succession is … embarrassing at best.”
However, the royal expert said, "But in reality, he’s so far down the line — behind the Sussex children — there’s little risk of him ever becoming king. Nevertheless, there is concern that any ad hoc removal of unpopular royals could make the institution look more like a political machine than a stable hereditary monarchy."
King Charles has initiated a formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Andrew amid scandals surrounding the former Duke of York.
Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Andrew’s lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
Andrew, the second son of late Queen Elizabeth, was the second in line to the British throne when he was born. Now, Andrew is eighth in line to the throne despite losing his titles, honors and public role.
The BBC recently reported removing Andrew from the line of succession would require an act of Parliament and consent from the Commonwealth realms where the king serves as monarch.
Hilary Fordwich said, "Much to the chagrin of Prince William, heir to the throne, as well as other senior royals and the public at large, Parliament has already signaled that it has no plans to legislate Andrew out of the succession.
"It would also require negotiations with the Commonwealth realms."
