Charli XCX spills the beans on 'Wuthering Heights' movie score
Charli XCX explains the concept behind her music for new ‘Wuthering Heights’ adaptation
Charli XCX went into the studio to create music for the Wuthering Heights adaptation with a few distinct ideas after Emerald Fennell approached her.
The 33-year-old pop icon took to Instagram on Thursday, November 6, and shared the inspiration behind her soundtrack, which went viral on social media.
The 360 hitmaker shared a teaser on her Instagram for the title track, House, and explained the thought process on her Stories.
The Grammy winner noted that she was taken in by the “world [Fennell] was creating” and “After being so in the depths of my previous album [Brat], I was excited to escape into something entirely new, entirely opposite.”
The Apples songstress continued, “When I think of Wuthering Heights, I think of many things. I think of passion and pain. I think of the Moors, I think of the mud and the cold. I think of determination and grit.”
Charli XCX also credited Todd Haynes' documentary about The Velvet Underground as one of the sources of inspiration for this soundtrack, as it reminded her, “Any song had to be both ‘elegant and brutal.'”
She then wrote about reaching out to John Cale, who collaborated with her on the song, “I feel so lucky to have been able to work with John on this song,” Charli XCX wrote.
The song, House, will be released on Monday, months before the movie’s release in February.
