Prince William and Kate’s lowkey Balmoral Halloween bash revealed
Prince William and Kate serve guests themselves at intimate Halloween party
Prince William and Kate Middleton may look poised and formal at official engagements, but behind closed doors, the Prince and Princess of Wales are known for their naughty humour and down to earth charm.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold has revealed a glimpse of their lighter side, recounting a ‘spooky’ Halloween celebration the couple hosted in 2009 at one of Balmoral’s remote cabins.
Speaking to Marie Claire, Harrold explained that the intimate gathering took place in one of the Scottish estate’s secluded cabins, the perfect setting for a fun, low-key Halloween evening.
“I and one of the other butlers kitted it all out for Halloween with cobwebs and spiders,” he recalled, before William and Kate personally took over, serving their guests with hands-on hospitality.
Gushing about the couple’s nature, Harrold added, “The kitchens packed up the food for William and Kate to take down [to the cabin].
They took it all down themselves, unpacking it and serving it themselves. They then washed it all back up, packed up the boxes, and brought it back up to the main house.”
Guests and hosts alike embraced simplicity, with Harrold noting that the Prince and Princess “didn’t do fancy dress, they were all in jeans and shirts,” proving that even royals can enjoy Halloween with a relaxed, homey touch.
In 2023, their neighbor Jay shared a glimpse of the family enjoying Halloween at home, posting a photo of Middleton and her children in costume outside his gate.
He captioned it, “For anyone doubting how William and Kate are… This is Kate with their kids knocking on our door in London, trick or treating at Halloween.”
The snapshot showed the family arriving at Ruthland’s home after a school day, highlighting their approachable and relatable parenting style.
The royal couple reportedly spends Halloween at their Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall, embracing a quieter celebration away from public eyes.
Local resident Kathy Whittaker, a frequent shopper in the area, has often spotted the Princess preparing for the holiday.
Speaking to The Mirror in 2019, she recalled, “I didn’t see what she actually bought. The lady who told me she was there had children with her, and she said Kate was asking her children what they were going to be for Halloween.
I think she bought some Halloween bits for her kids, but I don’t know what.” At the time, Middleton was accompanied by her two eldest children.
