Truck rollover crushes three pedestrians to death

LAHORE

Two women and a six-year-old girl were killed and two others sustained injuries when a truckloads of salt overturned onto five pedestrians in Sanda police limits on Wednesday. 

A case has been registered against the fleeing truck driver. An Edhi official said the truck entered Lahore from Saggian Bridge. It had just reached  T-5 on Bund Road when it’s tyre burst due to overspeeding. As a result, the truck overturned on to five people on the roadside and they came under it. A crane was used to remove the truck and rescue the victims. Two women and a girl, identified as Zainab, were recovered dead while two others received multiple injuries.

The incident caused a traffic jam on Bund Road and its linking arteries for over two hours. It was witnessed that the locals of the area had started stealing salt from the truck instead of rescuing the victims. CTO Tayyab Cheema reached the scene to clear the traffic by deploying additional force and removing the truck from the road. The condition of the injured was stated to be critical. 

SUICIDE: A 21-year-old woman committed suicide over domestic dispute in Kahna police limits. The victim identified as Rubina, daughter of Abdul Sattar, of Lalyani, was working as maid along with her mother at the home of Ghulam Sarwar in Kahna. On the day of incident, the victim’s mother scolded her over her apathy in work. She got dejected and swallowed poisonous pills.

ACCIDENTS: At least 568 road traffic accidents were reported in provincial monitoring cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which nine lives were lost and 464 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts.
