Alleged frontman in Dr Asim case indicted

KARACHI: The accountability court has indicted co-accused and alleged frontman, Abdul Hameed, in former adviser on petroleum Dr Asim Hussain case. However, the accused pleaded not guilty. Hearing was held at the accountability court against Dr Asim and others in the Rs462 billion corruption case. The court also ordered separation of Abdul Hameed’s case from Dr Asim Hussain case. Abdul Hameed is the group finance manager at the Ziauddin Hospital.

KARACHI: A spokesman for Dr Asim Hussain has said that Dr Hussain’s wife has cancer, and she needs the company of her husband. Dr Asim Hussain nearly lost consciousness when he heard that his wife, Zareen Hussain’s, cancer has deteriorated. Dr Asim Hussain was examined by some doctors who said that Dr Asim Hussain is under severe stress after he heard that his wife’s condition has deteriorated. Zareen Hussain is being treated for her cancer at a London hospital.

SUKKUR: Police on Wednesday booked 64 goods transporters on the charges of injuring two personal of the law-enforcement agencies the other day during a protest by the transporters. Meanwhile, goods transporters and laborers continued their protest and locked their shops. Six transporters sought bail before arrest.
PTA receives Telenor’s bid for NGMS sale

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) received a bid from the Telenor for purchasing the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) till 4pm on June 1 as per the scheduled deadline. The PTA completed this procedure under the rules defined by the Information Memorandum. Notably, an information session about the NGMS auction was held at the PTA office on May 23. Mobilink, Telenor, World Call and Multinet representatives attended the session. According to a press release, the PTA completed this work as per the rules and regulations of the IT Ministry and the Pakistan Procurement Regulatory Authority.
Senior civil judge removed by PHC

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday removed a senior civil judge from service on charges of ‘misconduct and corruption.’A communiqué issued from the office of the registrar of PHC said the Senior Civil Judge, Battagram, Muhammad Nadeem, was removed from service after he failed to submit a satisfactory explanation to a show cause notice served on him. The judicial officer was removed from office under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2011.Earlier, an inquiry officer found the sacked judicial officer culpable during an inquiry carried out in this connection.
Fake antiques making factory unearthed in Nowshera
NOWSHERA: The police on Wednesday claimed to have unearthed a factory that was making fake antiques and arrested the watchman in Akbarpura area, an official said. Deputy Superintend of Police (DSP) Khan Khel told the reporters that the police unearthed a factory used to manufacture replicas of antiquities and sell the items for the genuine artifacts on a high price. He said the police also recovered five fake statues from the factory and arrested the watchman. He said the owner of the factory was an expert in making replica of antiquities. He said the police lodged a case and started an investigation. --Correspondent
Six terrorists killed in Layyah
LAYYAH: The Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday claimed to have killed six terrorists linked to Al Qaida during a shootout in Layyah. The CTD police also recovered arms and a huge cache of ammunition from their possession. On a tip off the CTD team raided a hideout in Tehsil Chobara where the terrorists were holed up and an exchange of fire ensued after the security personnel encircled the building. Six terrorists were killed while two of their accomplices fled under the cover of fires, the CTD said. The identity of the slain terrorists could not be disclosed immediately.

ISLAMABAD: Senator Mushahidullah Wednesday said President Mamnoon Hussain had covered all foreign and internal issues in his speech to the joint session of the parliament.Talking to newsmen here at the Parliament House, he said the president highlighted all the issues including sacrifices in the war against terrorism, temporary displaced persons, corruption and China Pakistan Economic Corridor. He lauded the president for stressing the need to resolve the core issue of Kashmir. The relations with Afghanistan Iran and other countries were also highlighted, he added. He addressed the parliament once in a year and the opposition should have shown maturity during the speech, he added.
Cop gunned down in Quetta
QUETTA: A police sub-inspector was gunned down by assailants on Samungli Road in Quetta Wednesday. SI Mukhtiar Ahmed was going to duty when armed men turned up on a motorcycle and opened fire on him leaving him fatally injured and escaped. The injured sub-inspector was rushed to a hospital from where he was referred to the CMH Quetta where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Doctors said several bullets had hit the cop in the head. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
