Two minors found drowned

Two minors drowned in a pond of the Racecourse Club in Kot Lakhpat police limits under mysterious circumstances on Friday.

Police have handed over the bodies to their families after completing legal formalities. The victims were identified as Shafaqat, 9, and Nasir, 7, residents of Gondal Chowk. The families told police the victims had gone to the club to bring water from the filtration plant. When, they didn’t return for a long time, they started a search for them but could not find them. The next day, they heard announcements from nearby mosques that bodies of two children have been recovered from the pool of the club. They reached the spots and identified them. The victims’ parents are workers. One victim is survived by nine siblings and the other by seven.

 Security guard Qutab Sher said that on Thursday evening, he saw the victims coming to the club to fill water. He said that it was a routine matter as the filtration plant had been installed inside and people would usually come to the place. He said he saw them coming to the club but did not see them returning. The next day, when they brought horses to the pond, bodies of the victims appeared on the surface.

They informed police. A heavy contingent of police including DIG Operations Dr. Haider Ashraf and SP Model Town Mustansir Feroz reached the spot. They fished out the bodies and searched for their families. Police also collected forensic evidences from the scene and registered statements of eye-witnesses. DIG Operations Dr Hiader Ashraf said that circumstantial evidences suggested it was an accident. However, autopsy and investigations would ascertain if they had been murdered. 

burnt: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were burnt in a fire in a godown in Shahdara police limits on Friday.

Rescue officials said that a fire broke out due to short-circuit in a factory godown near the Saggian Bridge. Residents tried to control it but could not succeed after which they called rescue teams. No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.

Conference: The implementation of a strategy which was evolved to eliminate nepotism from the police department is providing positive results. No kind of pressure and interference will be accepted particularly in postings and transfers and ACRs of officers.

 This was stated by Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera while addressing the video link RPO Conference held at Central Police Office, Lahore, today. Addl: IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Addl: IGP Operations / Investigation Punjab, Capt. (R) Arif Nawaz, Addl: IGP Establishment Punjab, Dr. Arif Mushtaq, Commandant PC, Addl: IGP Hussain Asghar and other senior police officers were also present in the conference.

The IGP stressed upon the field officers to strictly observe the categorisation of the DSP rank officers i.e. A & B. He said that no DPO can change the category of any DSP. He added that the category could only be changed on the recommendations of the RPOs with the approval of the CPO. He said that officers will fall in A category who enjoyed good reputation and don’t have the posting tenure of any district more than 10 years. He said that no DSP rank officer is being posted in his home district under this policy. He further added that the reporting officers should write ACRs of their subordinates very honestly under the given policy so that the honest could be promoted and bad reputed could be stopped. While reviewing the issue relating to arrests of fake constables in police department, the PPO also directed the officers to make arrangements for their immediate arrest after cancellation of their bails.

The conference also reviewed the completion of front desks in 202 police stations of 13 districts in Punjab. All field officers assured the IGP that the given task will be accomplished within the commencement of the next working week.
