Community gardens

April 07, 2019

With the rising prices, basic food commodities are becoming a challenge for the common person. In such limited resources, the concept of a kitchen garden may come as a great help. The well-off elite have sprawling manicured lawns and farm houses, but the poor with hardly a roof over their head in congested city dwellings do not even have space for a small kitchen garden for themselves.

May I suggest to the government to come up with a bare minimum cost programme to allocate small lands from vacant city areas only for kitchen gardening to city dwellers who need it and are interested to grow fruits and vegetables. This is a common practice in the West. Families love to spend weekends tending to their kitchen gardens. The plots could be allotted for a fixed time only. Would love to see something similar if possible – with the right intent and guidelines.
