First aid training should be made mandatory for all students as it not only develops and polishes their abilities to immediately respond to the critical conditions posed to human life, but also makes them better human beings.
This was suggested by speakers at the opening of a two-day training workshop “First Aid” organised by Government College University’s Sustainable Development Study Centre (SDSC) in collaboration with the Red Crescent Society Punjab. University of Education Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam chaired the opening ceremony and said “It is highly unfortunate that we lack culture of trainings and preferred traditional knowledge that is forwarded to us from friends and ancestors, which often results in tragedies.” Prof Rauf-i-Azam also laid stress on trainee students as a mass volunteers force for disaster management saying preparedness against natural calamities and other accidents through selfless voluntary services was the real strength of any community. He said volunteers acted as a catalyst of change in a society. He told the students that volunteering should not be only considered as self-sacrifice, it was also a multidimensional investment in the society and one's own personal development through such trainings. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said they strongly believe in personality development of their students by actively engaging them in welfare activities, trainings and other co-curricular activities i.e. debate, drama and quiz. Red Crescent Society Punjab Secretary Mahboob Qadir Shah briefed the students about the history, objectives and activities of the society.
