women seats: Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court Thursday sought replies from the federal government and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a petition challenging legal provision for reserved seats for women in national and provincial assemblies.
Petitioner advocate Tariq Aziz Malik submitted that total 188 seats had been reserved for women in national and four provincial assemblies and parties nominated women for these seats. He asserted that it was unconstitutional as under article 226 of the Constitution all elections shall be held by secret ballot.

Election Commission of Pakistan only allotted seats to parties on the basis of seats they won in the general election, which is against the sprit and mandate of the constitution, he said.
