LAHORE University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talata Naseer Pasha Wednesday stressed the need for making university diploma courses field-oriented with focus on “learning by doing”. Chairing a meeting arranged by the UVAS’s Institute of Continue Education and Extension (ICE&E) to revise the scheme of study of the two-year Livestock Assistant Diploma according to modern-day market needs, he stressed the need that the courses/curriculum of the diploma should be more of practical and the students must be trained on efficient and quality service delivery to the farming community on their doorsteps. He said courses should be updated keeping in view the market needs with focus on corporate dairy farming, mechanization, vaccination, vaccine handling, etc. He said the varsity has made no increase in students’ fee keeping in view their financial hardships. The meeting participants held an open discussion on the existing scheme of study of the diploma course and made various suggestions. Some new courses were added while some of the existing courses’ practicals were given more weight, reducing the theory portion. Director ICE&E Prof Dr Muhammad Abdullah, Dean Prof Dr Khushi Muhammad, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dr Tayyab Muneer, Prof Dr Sher Muhammad, Prof Dr Mian Abdus Sattar and officials from the L&DD Department Punjab and private organizations also attended the meeting. textbooks: Textbooks of intermediate classes are available in sufficient quantity in the market, said a spokesman for the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB). He said that rumours of delay in availability of textbooks in the market were an attempt to damage the repute of the organisation. He said that the PCTB had made further allocation for increase in quantity of textbooks in the market. He said that all the matters were being dealt transparently. He said the officials responsible for mistake in a map in Geography book for class 8 had been repatriated/terminated from the service and they were further being proceeded as per law. He said the SOPs of the PCTB were being improved to avoid such mistakes in future.
