A 45-year-old man died of suffocation when fire broke out in a furniture showroom at Iqbal Town on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Muhammad Arif of Azad Kashmir, was working as a salesman at the showroom. Police said that the fire broke out in the showroom due to short-circuit. After getting information, fire fighters rushed to the scene, doused the flames and pulled the victim out of the building filled with thick smoke. Arif was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, two labourers received burns when fire broke out in a plaza due to short-circuit near Scheme Mor. The injured labourers, identified as Shafqat and Hafeez, were admitted to a local hospital where their condition was said to be out of danger.
RESCUE : Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said that teams are on standby after the Nepal’s earthquake on Saturday morning. While addressing the specialised Search & Rescue Team of Rescue 1122 and Emergency Services Academy, he said that the teams need to maintain a high level of preparedness and readiness to be able to effectively respond to any disaster within the country or internationally as it had been performing during the floods since 2010 and several building collapse incidents nationally. He appreciated the efforts of the teams for maintaining a high level of alertness and readiness. The teams had been established according to the United National International Search & Rescue Advisory Group guidelines and comprises of the Team Leader, Deputy Team Leader, Planning and Coordination, and three Squads of Search & Rescue; Medical Team, Logistic Team and Communication Team, he added. The Search & Rescue Team leader Dr Farhan Khalid and Deputy Team leaders Dr Ali Imam Syed & Mian Muhammad Ahsan and Squad leaders Engr Shakeel Ahmed, Farhan Mirza and Muddasir Bokhari, Communication Officer Naeem Murtaza, Safety Officer Engr Hafiz Taimoor and all the teams had been put on high alert in this regard, he maintained.
The DG said that the teams would remain standby till further orders and can be mobilised within one hour in case of any humanitarian call from the Government of Pakistan. Dr Rizwan Naseer said that the Search & Rescue Teams of Rescue 1122 and Emergency Services Academy were in continuous collaboration with International Search and Rescue Teams, therefore, they had gained the capability to respond to any nature of disaster nationally or internationally.
25 BOOKED: Sabzazar police on Sunday registered a case against 25 persons, including the bridegroom, for keeping the four policemen in illegal confinement, tearing their uniforms and manhandling them. As per details, police received information that some participants were doing fire in the air in the wedding ceremony of Abdul Rehman. At this, three policemen including Ghulam Abbas reached the spot to arrest the violators but the guests allegedly manhandled them, tore off their uniforms and kept them in illegal confinement. Sabzazar police SHO Atif Zulfiqar along with police team rushed to the spot and arrested the bridegroom and his friend Shabbir Hussain. Later, the police registered a case against 25 persons.
HELD: The PHP arrested 51 criminals besides three proclaimed offenders and rendered help to 4,702 travellers on the highways. The PHP arrested proclaimed offenders, Suleman, Abdul Majeed, Momin, absconders Mushtaq, Jumma Khan and Hamal Khan. The PHP arrested 17 criminals and recovered 1,768 grams charas and 90 litres liquor from their possession. The PHP arrested 10 persons and recovered two riffles, two guns, six pistols and 372 bullets from their possession. The PHP also arrested five persons and recovered stolen wood worth Rs 546,150 from them and 18 sacks of low quality non-custom paid tea. The PHP also arrested four robbers and two pickpockets while the police arrested seven persons on the charge of using liquor besides reuniting seven lost children with their families.
KITE FLYING: Data Darbar police arrested two persons on the charge of kite flying. The arrested persons were identified as Khalid Mahmood and Majid Mahmood. The police recovered 18 kites and three rolls of kite strings from them. The police registered a case against the arrested persons.
YOUTH DIES: A youth died under mysterious circumstances in Mozang area on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sunny, a resident of Chah Pichwara, Mozang. Police said that the boy’s condition had gone critical due to excessive use of heroin. He was rushed to a local hospital where he died. Police shifted the body to morgue for
autopsy.
