A police constable was shot dead near Shaheen Complex in City Railway Colony on Thursday evening in what police described as a target killing incident.
The murder brought the number of policemen slain in Karachi to six this month and to 29 this year. Two Rangers personnel have also been killed in a suicide attack in the city in the current month.
Fifty-year-old Police Constable Muhammad Islam, son of Ahmed Khan, who was posted at the City Railway Station and deployed at the Keamari Railway Station, had just left his residence in City Railway Colony to do his night-shift duty when gunmen shot him thrice and fled.
“The constable was in uniform and assailants used a 9mm pistol in the attack,” SHO City Railway Police Station Anwar Bhano told The News.
He denied the cop died resisting a robbery bid. After arriving at the scene, police collected evidence and spoke to eyewitnesses about the incident.
