PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have introduced the vehicle verification system (VVS) in the province to avert terrorist activities of targeting sensitive places and installations through vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Devices and vehicle snatching.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have launched checking of vehicles across the province under this system, said a statement of the Police Department. The exercise is being carried out on different points and checkposts, it said, adding, 273 SIMs or Subscriber Identity Modules have been issued to the police throughout the province for this purpose.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have impounded 136 vehicles of different types during the last one month. The owners have been proceeded against as per the relevant laws. Apart from this, several vehicles have been taken into police custody over suspicions. The Peshawar police showed excellent performance by impounding 85 vehicles, followed by Mardan Region, 31 and Malakand 14.
The computerised data about all the lifted vehicles has been made available to all police through a simple Vehicle Verification System. The vehicle stolen from any part of the province could easily be traced and impounded anywhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by applying this system.
