KARACHI: The annual meeting of the APNS General Council held on March 31 at APNS House, Karachi elected Executive Committee for the year 2015-16 which unanimously elected Hameed Haroon (Daily Dawn) as President, Rameeza Majid Nizami (Daily Nawa-i-Waqt) as Senior Vice President, Mumtaz A. Tahir (Daily Aftab) as Vice President, Sarmad Ali (Daily Jang) as Secretary General, Rahmat Ali Raazi (Weekly AZM/Daily Taaqat) as Joint Secretary and Humayon Tariq (Daily Business Report) as Finance Secretary of the Society. According to a press release the meeting held under the chairmanship of Hameed Haroon, President for the year 2014-15, unanimously approved report of the Executive Committee for the preceding year as well as the annual accounts of the Society. The General Council, attended by 149 members from across the country, formed an election commission headed by Younus Riaz with Syed Javed Ahmed and Nasir Daad Baloch as its members. The election commission conducted election of the Executive Committee for the year 2015-16. Following were elected un-opposed: Karachi daily seats: Sarmad Ali (Daily Jang), Dr. Jabbar Khattak (Daily Awami Awaz), Arshad A. Zuberi (Daily Business Recorder), Najamuddin Sheikh (Daily Deyanat), Ilyas Shakir (Daily Qaumi Akhbar) and Aijazul Haq (Daily Express). Lahore daily seats: Arif Nizami (Daily Pakistan Today), Umer Mujib Shami (Daily Pakistan), Hameed Haroon (Daily Dawn), Rameeza Majid Nizami (Daily Nawa-i-Waqt), Jamil Ather (Daily Tijarat) and Imtinan Shahid (Daily Khabrain). Rawalpindi/Islamabad daily Seats: Mehtab Khan (Daily Ausaf) and Khushnood Ali Khan (Daily Sahafat). Balochistan daily seats: Waseem Ahmed (Daily Awam, Quetta) and Syed Mumtaz Ahmed Shah (Daily Mashriq, Quetta). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa daily seats: Syed Ayaz Badshah (Daily Mashriq Peshawar), Pir Sufaid Shah Hamdard (Daily Wahdat Peshawar). Sindh excluding dailies of Karachi: Javed Mehr Shamsi (Daily Kaleem Sukkur), Muhammad Aslam Kazi (Daily Kawish Hyderabad). General seats (Regional dailies): Abdul Wahid Yousufi (Daily Aaj, Peshawar) and Humayon Gulzar (Daily Sayadat Bahawalpur). Periodicals seats: Aamer Mahmood (monthly Kiran Digest Karachi), Mushtaq A. Qureshi (monthly Naey Ufaq Karachi), Sardar Khan Niazi (monthly Naya Rukh Karachi) and Dr. Waqar Yousuf Azeemi (monthly Roohani Digest Karachi). News & news comments periodical (Punjab/KPK): Rahmat Ali Raazi (Azm/Taaqat, Lahore). News & news comments periodical (Sindh/Balochistan): Kazi Asad Abid (fortnightly Ibrat, Hyderabad). News & news comments periodicals (general): Riaz A. Mansoori (monthly Cricketer, Karachi). The election commission conducted the election to the Executive Committee for the year 2015-16. Following were elected by secret ballot: Punjab (excluding Lahore/Rwp/Ibd): Mumtaz A Tahir (Daily Aftab Multan), Humayon Tariq (Daily Business Report Faisalabad) and SM Munir Jilani (Daily Paigham Faisalabad). General seats (metropolitan dailies): Syed Tanveer Hussain (Daily City 42, Lhr) and Faisal Zahid Malik (Daily Pakistan Observer, Islamabad).The Executive Committee unanimously elected Fauzia Shaheen (monthly Dastak) on woman publishers seat. The Executive Committee on the suggestion of the APNS president also elected Siddique Baloch (Daily Balochistan Express) as member emeritus.
