KARACHI: The Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is planning to attack the country’s water reservoirs, dams and barrages, The News has learnt.
After receiving information regarding the probable attack by Taliban on the water reservoirs of country, security has been tightened at all dams and barrages. According to well-placed sources of the Federal Interior Ministry, information has been received that banned Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with the collaboration of some other banned outfits has planned bomb attacks on important dams and barrages of country.
Following the threat, the Interior Ministry directed all the law enforcing agencies and all the provincial home departments for heightened security on water reservoirs.In this regard, security has been tightened at most important water reservoir of the country Tarbela Dam, KPK; Mangla Dam, Jhelum; Hub Dam, Balochistan; Chashma Barrage, Mianwali; Guddu Barrage, Guddu Sindh; Sukkur Barrage and Kotri Barrage, Hyderabad. It is pertinent to mention here that security agencies showed dissatisfaction over the security of all three barrages of Sindh -- Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri, and suggested to Federal Interior Ministry and Sindh Home Department, a high level of security and vigilance at the barrages.
