Drop in cases of smuggled goods

FAISALABAD: A visible decrease has been recorded in cases of transportation and use of smuggled goods due to timely action of Anti-Smuggling Wing of the Customs Department.

A spokesman said on Monday that the Customs staff had chalked out a strategy and started vigorous campaign against smuggled items. The anti-smuggling squads have also been activated for tight monitoring, due to which 17 cases of smuggling were registered during April 2019, he said and maintained the number of cases were declining compared with the previous months of this year.

He said the Customs department seized one vehicle worth Rs 2 million over nonpayment of duty during April, whereas 12 other vehicles were impounded on charges of transporting smuggled items worth Rs 35.7 million during this period.

He said the Customs officers also confiscated smuggled cloths besides seizing tyres, tubes, Iranian diesel, auto-parts, vehicles worth Rs 63 million during the outgoing month.

Management of local clinic medical store booked: Drug Inspector got a case registered against the management of a local clinic and medical store for using unregistered medicines.

Spokesman of health department said on Monday that Drug Inspector Khalid Mustafa conducted snap checking of Shaukat Clinic & Medical Store on Jhang Rand and found it involved in using unregistered medicines. A case was registered against the management of the store. Similarly, the drug inspector also seized a number of substandard and spurious medicines from a medical store in Chak 79/JB.

110 profiteers fined: The price control magistrates found 110 shopkeepers involved in over charging at 196 shops in various markets and bazaars of Faisalabad during May.

A spokesman of the local administration said Monday that during visits, the magistrates found 110 shopkeepers involved in profiteering and overcharging and imposed Rs 248,500 fine on them. Warnings were also issued to the profiteers.

BODY FOUND: An unidentified dead body of a woman was found from a canal near D Type Colony Bridge on Monday. Some passersby spotted the body and informed the local police. The police have started investigation.
