RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Monday said that Pakistan and Turkey were facing daunting challenges.
The COAS arrived in Ankara on a three-day official visit, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations, Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, tweeted.
During a meeting with the Turkish army chief, General Raheel said: “Our brotherly relations are time tested and eternal. I am sure we will surmount them [challenges] with a common and coherent approach. We assure you our unflinching support.”
On arrival, General Raheel was presented a guard of honour at the Turkish Land Forces headquarters.
The COAS visited the Kamal Ata Turk Mausoleum and laid a wreath. He expressed heartfelt condolences on the Ankara terrorist blasts. “We understand enormity of your challenges and stand by you.”
Both the military chiefs discussed enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey in the field of counter terrorism. They also deliberated on targeted operation, IED and international terrorism.
General Raheel was awarded the Turkish Legend of Merit for services for regional peace, courageously handling the terrorism menace, clarity in direction and sense of purpose in leading the Pakistan Army, and fighting barbaric terrorists successfully in an exemplary way.
