KARACHI: The Rangers spokesperson on Wednesday termed an advertisement against the Rangers from the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police for missing persons a conspiracy against the targeted operation to restore peace in Karachi and said an investigation had been launched into it.
According to the Rangers spokesperson, the adverstisements being published for the last 24 hours calling for the recovery of missing persons were a conspiracy against peace in Karachi.
He said attempts were being made to undermine the Rangers performance before the people, adding that the purpose was to harm the ongoing operation.
The Rangers spokesperson said the contents of the advertisement were fabricated and concocted, adding that an investigation into the issue had been initiated.
He said the Pakistan Rangers reserved the right to take legal action against the propaganda built on lies and such elements would be exposed.
The Karachi Police had accused the Rangers of kidnapping six people. An advertisement against the Rangers showing the names and pictures of the kidnapped individuals was given by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Orangi Town, Fakhar Islam, in a newspaper.
The advertisement stated that unidentified Rangers officials had kidnapped six individuals. More than 40 cases had been lodged against the unidentified Rangers officials under Section 365/34 in Orangi and various other police stations of the city.
Former Attorney General Anwar Mansoor stated that the Sindh government wanted to restrict the power of Rangers. He stated that the act of ad against the Rangers seemed to have a link with the statements made earlier by Asif Ali Zardari and Raza Rabbani.
He also stated that the DSP Orangi Town had been suspended and an investigation must be carried out as to how this ad against the Rangers was published.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that advertisements against the Rangers were an individual act and that their purpose was to create misunderstandings.
He said the provincial government had nothing to do with this. The police and Rangers were working together for restoration of peace, he added.
The Sindh CM said an investigation had been launched into the issue.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sayal took notice of the advertisement against the Rangers published in a newspaper.
He ordered an inquiry into the event by forming an investigation team led by Additional Inspector General (IG), Crime Investigation Department (CID), Sana Abbasi. The team will submit a report after complete investigation into the case within three days.
