Governor Imran Ismail calls for blood donation for patients of thalassaemia, other diseases

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Monday donated blood for children suffering from thalassaemia in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said it was a matter of concern that the availability of blood at the blood banks had critically decreased due to the lockdown in the province. He said owing to this situation the people and children suffering from various blood disorders were facing a tough time in getting blood transfusion services in a timely manner.

Ismail said those who were willing to donate blood had been facing difficulties in reaching the blood banks during the lockdown. He appealed to the public in general and the youth in particular to donate their blood as much as possible to overcome this situation of critical shortage of blood at the blood banks.

He said children and other patients suffering from various blood disorders including sickle cell anaemia, leukemia, and thalassaemia urgently required blood transfusion services during the current lockdown regime in Sindh. He said the health and upkeep of such patients had been endangered due to the delay in blood transfusion.

The governor stressed the need for carrying out a mass awareness campaign regarding the blood donation for the patients suffering from various blood disorders. He said all the required efforts should be made to ensure supply of the petroleum products to the fuel stations during the lockdown regime in Sindh.

He said that in this connection he had met the managing director of the Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Syed Muhammad Taha, at the Governor House. The availability of the petroleum products was necessary to ensure smooth operations of the essential and emergency services in the province during the lockdown orders of the government, Ismail maintained.

He said the fuel stations of the PSO on the inter-city highways should remain open to facilitate the transport of goods. He said the PSO had a significant role to play under its corporate social responsibility-related obligations during the ongoing battle against the coronavirus epidemic. He added that collective efforts were required to overcome the emergency situation caused due to the viral epidemic as every institution and individual had a role to perform in this campaign.
