The year 2013 marked the centenary of the Islamia College Peshawar. This institution was established through donations. Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan, who is still remembered today for his good services, spearheaded the movement. The institution has produced top bureaucrats and politicians.
Islamia College – now a university – is the only institution that bought its own land through donations and grants. This land, initially purchased for Rs30 per kanal, is now priceless. The college owns a total of 2,054 kanals of which barely one-third or one-fourth is left for its own use at present while the rest has been usurped by other institutions. The alumni of this institution want to see the college retain all its properties and reclaim all that was snatched by others. Can we hope a saviour like Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum comes forward and gives this seat of learning its past glory? What can the alumni do to save the college property?
