True to its past record, the Nawaz government has imposed Rs300 as tax on remittances that are less than Rs20,000. All transactions of Rs20,000 or above are exempted. This tax is discriminatory. Everybody knows this category belongs to those who are mostly labourers. They cannot afford this tax.
During his previous governments, Nawaz Sharif had taxed kerosene heavily; kerosene is used by the lower middle class while preparing meals. It is unfortunate that Imran Khan and Sheikh Rashid, who claim to champion the cause of overseas Pakistanis, have not uttered a single word against this discriminatory tax. This proves their double standards.
