Can anyone in their right mind conceive of a project that would utilise electricity as a driving force to power an electric train or similar mode of travel in the country? No. Because such a project would require uninterruptible supply of electricity which as we all know is not available and will not be available for the next half a decade or so. So no electric trains or any similar transport for the foreseeable future. Period.
But, wonder of wonders, such mode of travel actually existed in this very republic almost half a century ago. An electric train ran regularly between Lahore and Khanewal for many years without trouble and there were plans to extend the electrification of the track both up and down country. But in the course of time, deterioration set in and a clean, environment-friendly mode of travel that held tremendous promise stopped functioning. As if to make sure that the project would never see the light of day again, the exceedingly costly, high tension 25kV overhead traction cable and ancillary material was stolen. Today, one would be hard pressed to say that an electric train actually operated in this country. So much for progress in this muddled republic.
