This refers to the letter ‘Muslim equality’ (April 28) by Hasan Beg. The writer has suggested that the Arab world should learn to be fair in their dealings with other states and adopt a policy of equality among Muslim countries.
Easier said than done. The young generation in the Arab world, especially the educated lot want peace and progress. The ideals of harmony and respect for each other could only be achieved in democracies. Dictators all over the world keep meddling in different countries to abet their unpopular regimes. In a democracy, parliament and a vibrant opposition keep a check on rulers. Without empowering people the roadmap of the countries in the Middle East will not change in the positive direction as the writer suggested.
