The recent heavy rains and flooding in nullahs and the Soan River have completely destroyed the wheat crop spread over 400 acres of land in Adhwal and Chountra villages near Rawalpindi. The crop was at the ripening stage. The wheat crop was sown in the area called ‘Mal’.
The Punjab CM, especially Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who also hails from the same constituency, is requested to depute revenue staff to assess the damage and compensate farmers who depend on the wheat crop only in the barani areas of Punjab. In addition, the Punjab agriculture minister is also requested to send a team to survey the area so that a stonewall on the one side of the Soan River and the ‘Mal’ belt stretching up to seven kilometres can be built to save land from floods in future.
