KARACHI: A motorcyclist was shot dead after he apparently ignored several warnings and failed to pull up at a check-post in the Malir Cantt area on Friday afternoon.
According to the information initially shared with the police by the Malir Cantt authorities, an unidentified man attempted to cross the Check-Post No5 from the wrong side. A Military Police (MP) official signalled him to stop but he sped through the first security cordon.
Military Police officials then whistled the man to stop at the next barrier but he crossed this one too. Police said that finally the motorcyclist tried to rush through the last security barrier at the check-post and opened fire at MP personnel, wounding two of them, Azam and Arif. In the retaliatory fire, the suspect was wounded and fell off the motorbike.
The casualties were taken to the Combined Military Hospital, where the motorcyclist died. Station House Officer (SHO) Jaffar Baloch of the Malir Cantt Police Station said the suspect succumbed to his injuries at the CMH. He said the body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination after it was handed over to the police.
The police have yet to release the identity of the suspect. SHO Baloch said the motorcycle recovered from the suspect was stolen in the SITE Super Highway police limits a short while ago and the theft was reported at the police station at around 1pm. Further investigations are in progress.
