FDE set to see another change on top
Islamabad
The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is set to see another change of the top boss.
The development comes as the Supreme Court ordered the Establishment Division to give the FDE director general’s office to one of the three eligible officers from within the organisation.
Currently, Moinuddin Wani, a customs group officer, holds this BPS-20 post.
The Supreme Court had ordered the fresh appointment to the FDE director general’s post on the contempt of court petition filed by former office-holder, Dr Shahnaz Anjum Riaz.
She had reclaimed the post twice in the past on the Supreme Court orders after removal.
In October last year, the Establishment Division had transferred Dr Shahnaz from the FDE to the National Institute of Science and Technical Education as deputy director general.
Though no reason was cited in the notification for the transfer, insiders insisted Dr Shahnaz lost the key post on the orders from the prime minister's office over the growing infighting in the FDE, litigation against the organisation, and her failure to ensure resolution of the issues of the capital city’s government educational institutions.
Dr Shahnaz went to the court again for relief against what she called ‘sudden, unwarranted’ removal.
Earlier, too, in May 2010 to be precise, she had gotten back the top FDE office at the intervention of the court, which overturned her transfer to the Academy of Education Planning and Management.
The FDE overseen by the Capital Development and Administration Division has seen the change of over a dozen director generals over the last five years adversely affecting its performance, especially the management of more than 400 government schools and colleges in the capital city.
