The under detention former petroleum minister, Dr Asim Hussain, is likely to be advised physiotherapy and psychotherapy for his backache and mental stress complaints, after the medical board of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) met to review his health condition on Monday.
Having remained in custody of either the paramilitary force or the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) since his detention in August last year, Dr Hussain was transferred to the medical facility on January 21; after several appeals, claiming that his health was deteriorating, were turned down by the courts.
An official of the JPMC while speaking to The News informed that the medical board took the decision after examining his MRI and other medical test reports. Besides his mental condition and backbone-related issues, the board was also said to have assessed his blood pressure and diabetes since he was a patient of both.
However, both the conditions were decided to be kept in control through medicines.
The health experts, according to the official, were also to recommend the court to extend Dr Hussain’s stay at the JPMC.
Confirming that the medical board had met on Monday, chairman of the board Prof Dr Haroon Ahmed said the reports and recommendations would be submitted with the accountability court within a couple of days.
