PESHAWAR: The Pakistan People’s Party Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Nighat Orakzai has submitted a draft-bill in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly aimed at civic education for the masses.

The bill suggests the setting of a commission to educate and empower the new generation about civic and democratic rights along with ensuring their participation in knowledge-based governance and parliamentary affairs. The woman lawmaker said the bill, if passed, would lead to creating awareness among the people, especially the young generation about their responsibilities and rights.

In the bill, she explained, the constitution of KP Civic Education Commission has been suggested.

Since the core concepts of constitution, federalism, and representative parliamentary institutions were missing in the textbooks, that was why such education was the need of the hour, she argued.
