The deputy commissioners of all the seven districts held exercises on Thursday to preemptively deal with the possible aftermaths of the monsoon rainfalls.
On the directions of Commissioner Karachi Navid Shaikh, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), District Municipal Corporations (DMCs), K-Electric and other municipal agencies held exercises to combat urban flooding related issues. The deputy commissioners supervised the exercises and issued directions to the relevant authorities.
The deputy commissioners, according to a press statement issued by the Commissioner Office, monitored different machines for the drainage and checked their performance, and tested the response time, in case of any untoward incident, of their teams. Shaikh said the purpose of the exercises was to improve their preparation to respond to urban flooding in the city.
He directed all the deputy commissioners to remove every hurdle in the drainage of rainwater. He directed them to locate the choking points of rain drains and remove and clean them at the earliest.
The deputy commissioners also turned in reports to the commissioner Karachi regarding exercises held in their respective districts to combat rain-related issues. Different dewatering pumps and machines had been installed at different streets and roads and low-lying areas, according to the details shared by the Commissioner Office.
