Second survey of Oct 26 quake-hit houses soon

MANSEHRA: The district administration will resurvey as many as 695 houses affected by the October 26 earthquake in the district as the KP government expressed reservations over authenticity of the assessment. A meeting, held with Deputy Commissioner Aamir Khattak in the chair, decided to resurvey 50 affected houses in Oghi, 271 in Mansehra and 374 in Balakot. Sources privy to the meeting said the KP government had asked the district administration to resurvey damaged houses which were declared eligible for the compensation amount of Rs100,000 for partially damaged houses and Rs200,000 for destroyed houses in the district. 

The district administration had received as many as 5,287 applications of house damages in the earthquake and army and revenue teams found only 695 houses eligible for either partially or fully damaged status. Two people had died and 11 injured as a result of the devastating earthquake in the area last year and the district administration paid compensation amount to all, except two persons who were out of the district for treatment. The meeting, attended by Assistant Commissioners Naveed Ahmad, AC of Balakot Roman Burana and AC of Oghi Altaf Hussain and officials of the District Disaster Management Authority,  Communication and Works Department decided to revisit houses which had been cleared for compensation.
