PPP complains to AJK EC about Gandapur, PML-N

ISLAMABAD: The PPP has submitted a written complaint to AJK election commission against the attitude of Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit- Baltistan Ali Amin Gandpur for continuing holding public rallies despite the chief election commissioner’s order for leaving AJK.

The PPP also complained to the AJK election commission over use of government resources by the PML-N candidates in the elections.

In a letter written to the AJK chief election commissioner, in charge PPP election cell Senator Taj Haider said the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has complained that federal Minister Ali Amin Gandapur whom the office of the election commissioner has instructed to leave AJK immediately was continuing staying in the Valley, addressing public meetings and holding press conferences in blatant violation of orders.

He said a number of the PTI candidates contesting the elections of AJK legislative assembly hosted and welcomed Ali Amin Gandapur in their election meetings and thus openly defied the orders given by the AJK election commissioner. Senator Taj Haider stated that under the election laws all such candidates who defied clear orders of chief election commissioner stand disqualified.

He said in his letter that the federal ministers have been openly campaigning for the PTI candidates and they have been openly distributing cash to buy the voters. “They have been using the most offensive language in order to foment law and order situation in AJK,” he added.

Taj Haider said the PPP chairman also complained about the use of government resources by the PML-N candidates which are prohibited under the election laws. He requested the chief election commissioner to take action under the law and disqualify these candidates immediately. “We also respectfully caution you that in case no action is taken and these criminal violations are not condoned these elections will become the most controversial elections in a most sensitive area,” he stated in the letter.

Meanwhile, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bokhari has demanded the AJK election commission to ensure free, fair and transparent polls. He said the PPP has serious reservations on the role of AJK election Commission as it failed in implementing its own decision as federal minister despite the ban in AJK continued addressing rallies.
