Arrest of elders in Landikotal protested
LANDIKOTAL: Hundreds of residents, political parties’ workers and social activists on Sunday staged protest in Landikotal bazaar against the arrest of local elders and youth leaders.
The protesters were holding banners and black flags inscribed with the slogans to release the arrested youth leaders including Landikotal Falahi Tanzeem chairman Akhtar Ali Shinwari and Naujawanan-e-Qabail president Israr Shinwari.
Police had arrested the leaders and local elders after they gave a call for protest against the ban on sacrificial animals and other restrictions at Torkham border.
The protesters marched in Landikotal bazaar and chanted slogans against what they called high-handedness of Landikotal police.
Police officials, led by DSP Swalzar Khan, held talks but could not succeeded to end the protest. The protesters were demanding immediate release of the arrestees.
Meanwhile, Sultankhel residents blocked the Pak-Afghan highway in Khyber Takia area to record their protest against the prolonged load-shedding.
