PESHAWAR: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday issued a weather advisory and predicted heavy rains across the province from Monday to Wednesday.
Through a communique, it said as per the Meteorological Department forecast, rain and wind thunderstorm with few heavy/torrential rain were expected in Peshawar Dir, Swat, Buner, Kohistan, Shangla, Manshera , Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Dera Khan, North and South Waziristan, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Karak, Charssada and Nowshera from Sunday evening to Wednesday.
The PDMA said the heavy rains might cause flash flooding in local nullahs and streams of Shangla, Buner, Battagram, Manshera, Balakot, Abbottabad, Kohat, Swat, Kohistan and Mardan and urban flooding in Peshawar and Nowshera during the period.
Torrential rains might cause landslides in the vulnerable areas of the province and the water level in rivers might rise threatening nearby communities.
The heavy rain may disrupt transport and communication systems, therefore, travelers and tourists were advised to remain cautious during this period.
The PDMA urged the people to take precautionary measures and directed all line departments to ensure availability of emergency service staff, machinery and other resources.
