PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amn Jirga Chairman Syed Kamal Shah has asked the government to take effective measures to curb the growing menace of drugs, especially ice and 10-wheelers.
Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, he said that it would be difficult for the authorities to control the situation if timely action was not taken against the manufacturers and peddlers of these drugs.
Flanked by the Peace Jirga office bearers from Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and Malakand, he said according to the report of a non-governmental organisation, 20 million educated youths were using drugs, which was a matter of concern. The youths, he said, were the real assets but the use of heroin, ice and 10-wheeler had shaken the very foundation of the society.
Syed Kamal Shah said the rehabilitation of youths, including the girl students, would become difficult once they start using the new drug.
It was the joint responsibility of the society and state to save the upcoming generation, he said and asked the government to hold an investigation and probe the accounts of its manufacturers and peddlers to save the youths.
