Hashish smuggling bid foiled

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police on Tuesday claimed to have seized 868 kilograms of hashish from and arrested two alleged smugglers, sources said.

The hashish was being smuggled from the Zhob town of Balochistan into Dera Ismail Khan, said the police sources.

The police had been tipped off that a truck with registration no AE 0272 was carrying a huge quantity of hashish under the cover of transportation of sacrificial animals.

A police team led by Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Hafiz Muhammad Adnan and station house officer (SHO) of Daraban, Muhammad Yaseen Khan and in charge of Dararban police check-post Ikram Khan intercepted the truck.

The truck was carrying sheep but the police recovered from its secret cavities 868 kilograms of fine quality hashish which had been stuffed in 700 packets.

The truck driver, Haji Muhammad , son of Said Wali, a resident of Landikotal ,cleaner Shakoor Khan, son of Sher Hassan Afghani, a resident of Badaber village in Peshawar, were arrested under Section 9 (D) CNCA Act. The truck was impounded, a case registered and investigation launched.
