Wasa installs smart cones at 22 sore points to gauge rainwater
LAHORE:As per its pre-monsoon arrangements, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has established smart cones at 22 sore points of the provincial metropolis to gauge the stagnant rainwater here on Friday.
Now Wasa management can monitor the city roads and can also take immediate steps to clear the city roads during monsoon season. This was announced by Wasa Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz while talking to media after a meeting at Wasa head office in Gulberg. DMD Operation Ghofran Ahmed and other officials were also present in the meeting. Wasa MD said the meeting was called to review arrangements of the agency in view of the arrival of monsoon. Smart cones made by experts from IT University have been activated at 22 different locations in the city.
A delegation of Information Technology University also gave a briefing to Wasa MD and informed that the smart cones will provide direct reports from 22 different low-lying areas of the city.
He said he has already instructed Wasa’s field teams to install dewatering sets as required in low lying areas. Each directorate will submit a clearance certificate upon completion of the desalination operation, he maintained. Punjab government has also approved construction of an underground rainwater storage reservoir at Gaddafi Stadium, he said adding the tank’s storage capacity will be 4 million gallons and Wasa will complete this project on priority basis. Wasa MD said that the estimated cost of this rainwater harvesting project will be around Rs 65 crore and all arrangements should be completed before further rains.
LWMC: Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has started a weekly special cleanliness drive for Jamia mosques of the cities here on Friday. In this connection, Chief Executive Officer LWMC Rafia Haider paid a surprise visit to Badshahi Mosque and Walled City to check cleanliness arrangements. She added that all necessary arrangements must be completed at mosques before Juma prayer as well as adjacent areas of the mosques. New containers are being placed in public places.
