Workers for cheap sources of power generation
LAHORE:Electricity workers union demanded the government take urgent measures to provide cheaper electricity to industrial, commercial, agriculture and domestic electricity consumers by building cheaper sources of generation of electricity such as hydel power stations and gas fueled thermal power stations instead of independent private thermal power houses (IPPs). They also demanded the government not to privatise bill distribution.
The demands were raised in a resolution passed in Wapda/electricity workers conference held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall under All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA here on Wednesday.
Trade Union leader Khurshid Ahmad chaired the conference. The workers steps to prevent accidents of line staff by lifting the ban imposed on recruitment of line and meter reading staff for more than five months and ensure safe working conditions.
Sarfraz Ahmed, Lineman Hafizabad sub division, died of electric shocks while Qazi Amin Lineman from Islamabad was shot at by lawless elements and is admitted to a hospital, they said. By a resolution, the PM and minister were urged to raise wages of workers employed in industry, trade, banks and media by at least 30pc commensurate with price-hike in the federal budget.
