170 children abused in Lahore

A total number of 170 children were abused across the provincial metropolis from January to December 11 of the current year.

Not less than 123 boys were abused by 175 child perpetrators of whom 105 had been arrested and 70 were still at large. Similarly, 66 child perpetrators of whom 40 had been arrested and 26 were still at large attempted to commit sexual assault on 47 children.

The victims were sexually abused in different crime categories including sodomy, followed by gang sodomy, abduction of sexual purposes and attempt of sodomy.

As many as 81 per cent abusers were acquaintances, that is, people who are known to the victim or his family, whereas the rest of 19 per cent were strangers.

Among acquaintances, the description of 67 per cent abusers was not specified, that is, it was only mentioned that they were known to the victim and his/her family.

Children 7-14 years continued to be the age group with highest number of cases and this age group is most vulnerable to sexual abuse for boys.

As per statistics, 47 cases of sodomy were reported in Cantt Division police, 42 in City Division police, 30 in Model Town Division police, 26 in Saddar Division police and 12 each cases of sodomy were reported in Civil Line and Iqbal Town Divisions police. 34 children were abused in Cantt Division police, 29 in City Division police, 25 in Model Town Division police, 19 in Saddar Division police, 9 in Civil Line Division police and 7 children were abused in Iqbal Town Division police. Similarly, 14 incidents of attempted sodomy were reported in City Division, 7 in Saddar Division, 13 in Cantt Division, 3 in Civil Line Division, 5 each cases of attempted sodomy were reported in Model Town and Iqbal Town Divisions. City Division police arrested 25 child perpetrators out of total 43 who had abused 29 children and 8 out of total 17 who attempted to abuse 14 children. Saddar Division police arrested 18 child perpetrators out of total 26 who had sodomised 19 children and 4 out of total 11 who attempted to sodomise 7 children. Cantt Division police arrested 36 child perpetrators out of total 45 who had sodomised 34 children and 12 out of total 19 who attempted to sodomise 13 children.

Civil Line Division police arrested 6 child perpetrators out of total 15 who had sodomised 9 children and 3 who attempted to sodomise 3 children. Model Town police arrested 16 child perpetrators out of total 37 who had sodomised 25 children and 6 out of total 11 who attempted to sodomise 5 children.

Iqbal Town Division police arrested 4 child perpetrators out of total 8 who had sodomized 7 children and 3 out of total 5 who attempted to sodomize 5 children. Similarly, police cancelled 13 cases of sodomy out of total 123 and five cases of attempted sodomy out of total 47.
