Woman to be paid Rs40m for her land, LHC assured
LAHORE:The Punjab government on Monday undertook before the Lahore High Court (LHC) to pay a compensation amount of Rs40 million to a woman for acquiring her land decades ago for construction of a road infrastructure.
As the hearing commenced, a representative of the Punjab government turned up before Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan and assured him that Rs30.8 million would be paid to Sharifaan Bibi within the next three days while the remaining amount of Rs9.2 million by July 15.
The CJ remarked that the government acquired land from the woman, and constructed a road on it, however, it had yet to pay the dues to her. “People are left helpless as they were not paid dues for years despite using their land by the government,” the CJ said and warned that he would impose a fine of Rs100,000 per day in case of delay in payment from July 15.
