Eight more die of Covid-19 in Sindh, 707 test positive

Covid-19 claimed eight more lives in Sindh during the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,144 in the province. In the meantime, 865 patients were under treatment at different hospitals, of whom 815 were said to be in a critical state and 80 of them were on life support.

This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday in his daily statement on the pandemic situation in the province. He said that in addition to eight more deaths, 707 new cases of the viral disease emerged in Sindh after 15,115 tests were conducted. He added that with 5,144 deaths, the Covid-19 fatality rate remained 1.6 per cent in the province.

Shah said that the emergence of the 707 cases through the testing of 15,115 samples constituted a 4.7 per cent current detection rate. He added that so far 4,209,547 tests for Covid-19 had been conducted in Sindh, against which 324,518 cases were diagnosed, of which 91 per cent or 295,504 patients had recovered, including 668 during the previous 24 hours.

The CM said that there were currently 23,870 patients infected by the novel coronavirus in the province, of whom 22,980 were in home isolation, 25 at isolation centres and 865 at different hospitals.

According to him, of the 707 new cases, 375 belonged to Karachi, including 139 to District East, 115 to District Central, 52 to District Korangi, 34 to District South, 29 to District Malir and six to District West.

In the other divisions of Sindh, Hyderabad had 31 new cases, Shaheed Benazirabad 25, Badin 22, Shikarpur 21, Kamber-Shahdadkot 18, Sanghar 17, Larkana, Thatta and Sujawal 15 each, Dadu and Tando Allahyar 14 each, Kashmore 13, Naushehro Feroz 12, Ghotki and Umerkot nine each, Jacobabad, Matiari, Tharparkar and Jamshoro eight each, and Khairpur and Mirpurkhas had four new cases each.
